Shuffle, the resilient pup who has defied the odds, is turning ONE! Born in foster care on August 27, 2022, Shuffle’s journey has been one of courage and determination. From the very beginning, she faced challenges that would have tested even the strongest spirits.

At just three weeks old, Shuffle experienced multiple seizures that required urgent hospitalization. Although they ceased after 24 hours, the mystery surrounding them lingered. As time passed, her foster family noticed signs of urinary issues – recurrent UTIs and struggles with bladder control, even during sleep. Medical tests provided no clear answers, and a sense of uncertainty hung in the air.

Shuffle’s path to a diagnosis was paved with persistence and countless tests. The anticipated contrast dye study failed to reveal the answers they sought. An ultrasound, however, unveiled a sobering truth – architectural changes to her kidneys. Shockingly, Shuffle received a devastating diagnosis of Stage 4 (end stage) kidney disease. A condition without a cure, she embarked on a journey of management and care, supported by a medications, supplements, and a specialized diet.

Her treatment, while paramount to her well-being, comes at a cost. The monthly expenses for her medical needs amount to approximately $471, a testament to the lengths her foster family and the MUR team go to ensure Shuffle’s comfort and happiness.

In July, Shuffle was given a life expectancy of just six more months. Yet, the concept of time holds a different meaning in her world – it’s about making every moment count. Shuffle’s steadfast foster family, who have been by her side since puppyhood, have embraced their role in providing her with the most enriching life possible.

Shuffle’s story is one of courage, resilience, and unwavering love. As we gather to celebrate her first birthday, we also honour the battles she’s fought and the strength she’s shown. This day is a reminder that every wag of her tail, every joyful bark, and every heartwarming cuddle is a triumph.

Join us on September 4th at Camp Canine, where we’ll come together to celebrate Shuffle’s remarkable journey. In celebration of her 52 weeks of life, Shuffle wishes for 52 bags of puppy or dog food to be donated to MUR, ensuring that her legacy of resilience continues to uplift other pups in need.
